 Cheap Eatin'

With the economy in shambles, our kitchens sometimes suffer from unhealthy, but cheap snacks, TV dinners, or cup of soups. However, just because the money is tight does not mean we need to live like freshman in college, there are many different types of meals that can be made for cheap, but still maintain that healthy standard that we all wish to keep.

Here is a guide to help you eat cheaply, but still create a delicious and healthy meal. Using the following ingredients will help you achieve this:

· Eggs

· Beans

· In Season Fruits and Vegetables

· Pasta

First let's talk about eggs. Eggs are an amazing source of protein, easy to prepare, and are extremely diverse in their use. Eggs can be used for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, costing your almost nothing. The obvious uses are scrambled eggs and hardboiled eggs. However, bring out the skillet, cut up some peppers and some sliced ham, and you can have a simple spicy omelet that can give you a boost at the beginning of your day.

Beans are another diverse food that can keep a long time and be used in many dishes. Beans are a vegetarian's dream, because they contain so much protein, enough so that meat does not have to play a role in one's eating habits. Beans can be used in burritos, or other Mexican style foods, as the base, you can make barbecue beans with barbecue sauce and onions, or you can put them in your favorite instant soup so makes it instantly tastier.

When you go to the grocery store there is that special area designated for fruits and vegetables. The prices may seem high, but in reality fruit and vegetables are much cheaper than most packaged food, and much healthier. These healthy alternatives are very filling, can be used as snacks or deserts, and taken with you away from home; with little or no clean up. Just make sure to carefully wash your fruits and vegetables before eating, to prevent any dangerous bacteria making you sick.

Pasta is another cheap option; you can spice it up with choosing any numbers of shapes from the pasta aisle, and put vegetables or tomato sauce to top it off. Pasta keeps as long as you want, only uses water for preparation and can be cooked in less than 10 minutes. If you want to splurge a little, buy some parmesan cheese, one bottle can last you months.
