The parental control software has become a growing industry during the past few years. The increasing number was a consequence of what Internet shows and opens in front of the eyes of a child. But what is in fact parental control software? As we find in Wikipedia, parental control software is defined as "computer software used to access the Internet that allows a parent to monitor or limit what a child can see or do and/or time-limit these activities".

So this parental control software is an internet filtering applications that identifies and blocks unsuitable content on the Internet and prevents it from being shown on the screen.

One of the main functionalities a parental control has, is program blocking. In this respect the application should be able to restrict access to specific applications before these takes place. Either the child opens an instant messenger application, a game or any other application that you consider improper for his age or education, the parental control software will respond immediately by blocking it.

Regarding chat conversations, parents always are concerned about it. Thinking who your child is talking with and what is he talking, a parent must be aware that there are not only friends surrounding your child but also online predators and internet thieves. Once he joins a chat room, it is certain that he will virtually meet new persons some of them with weird habits that might change the point of view of a naïve child. There are some unbelievable situations when these online predators or internet thieves asks your child personal details about the place your family lives and sometimes even arrange a physic meeting with the child. As a parent you know that your family's security is in danger and you must put an end to all these before something bad happens.

 

Going further I would like to talk in a few words about p2p applications, a free and open source for everything you want to download. This is an application that runs on your PC and allows sharing of files. But this should be a concern not only for parents but for everyone because these encourage the download of copyrighted music, software, and even inappropriate videos, content, violent games and much more. Unfortunately a child can't choose what is good or bad for him and mistakenly he can download these kind of files.

I guess that now every parent knows why a parental control or internet filtering software is a must have. It's more important to prevent than to treat so take some action because time passes and remember that every passed day is a lost day. Your child is growing fast and what he sees and learns every day is the bases of his character and education. It's up to you how his future opens in front of his eyes.
