If you are a wine lover, you
probably cannot resist the idea of
making some on your own. Wine making is easy and can be done at
home without too much trouble. Get hold of the right information
on how to make your wine.
To start making wine at home, first get yourself some grapes or
their concentrate. It is excellent if you have some land to grow
grapes on, because then the wine you get from these grapes will
be really truly yours. If you are using grape concentrate,
nothing but the best quality will do. You can get very high
grade concentrate online, or you will have to search in a home
brewing store. Now you will have to get home brewing equipment
and some yeast. One suggestion is to invest in a wine kit
because this helps you to get all the stuff together instead of
piecemeal. Do not buy individual wine making equipment for
making large batches of wine until you have made certain that
your wine has brewed well and you really want to continue doing
this.
You will need to perform some five to eight tasks in wine
making, depending on what you are using, grape or concentrate.
If using grapes, you will need to begin by harvesting them. Make
sure you remove all the stems from the grapes you harvested.
Extricating the steps is essential and must be carefully done
because if you leave even some of them, the tannins in them can
give a bitter taste to the wine.
When you are sure not a single stem fragment is left, crush the
skins of the grapes so that the juices from them will ooze out.
There are numerous ways to perform this. Wine makers use the
method of crushing to extract the juices from the grapes. The
degree to which the fruit is crushed will have an impact on the
resulting wine. Would you like to know how they get those almost
fruit flavored wines?
Primary fermentation is the next step you have to do. This is
when the yeast cells will act on the sugars present in the juice
and ferment it. You will now have carbon dioxide and alcohol but
you may have to add more yeast to get the complete reaction.
This helps to ensure a stable and consistent conversion which
may not be the case if you rely solely on the yeast that is
found on the fruit itself.
Now, you have to squeeze more juice from the grapes. You have
completed the step of primary fermentation, but now you can
remove more juice from the fruit. This secondary extract will
not be of as superlative quality as the juice obtained from the
primary extent. The juice got from the first crushing did not
come in contact with the stem and skins as it ran freely. But
you must not think that this press juice is of no use. Large
scale wineries use press juice so as to improve their total
production volume.
There is a second fermentation after this pressing process,
which is concurrent with the aging process of the wine. Wine
makers decide according to their personal needs how long to
allow their wines to ferment.
Bottling is the concluding process of wine making. Your wine
must be directly poured into the bottles, but do remember to add
sulfites as these are needed to stop fermentation and for
preservation. Cork the bottle and you are done!
